Mark Richardson
Director, Market Data & Systems Transparency, Ocean Markets and Finance
Mark Richardson is Director of Market Data and Systems Transparency for the WWF-US Ocean Markets & Finance team. In this role, Mark leads WWF’s efforts to bring data-driven solutions, traceability, and transparency to global seafood supply chains and other sectors of the blue economy. Mark also helps lead WWF’s blue finance work with financial institutions to identify and mitigate ocean ESG risks in their portfolios, including the development of tools to better illuminate supply chain risks. Mark also directly manages partnerships with several WWF-US corporate partners and supports the development of pre-competitive collaborations to reach goals for sustainable seafood market transition.
Prior to joining WWF, Mark worked for more than a decade on various domestic and international seafood sustainability and ocean conservation issues. He has extensive experience working with seafood industry partners to improve business practices that strengthen seafood traceability and reduce the risk of illegal fishing. Recently, he worked for the Pew Charitable Trusts on its global campaign to end illegal fishing, where he led a partnership with INTERPOL and supported development of a satellite data platform to monitor fishing vessel activity around the globe. Mark has a B.A. in German from SUNY Binghamton, and master’s degrees in Public Administration from Syracuse University and in Sustainable Development & Conservation Biology from the University of Maryland.
